Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Birnbaum talked about current issues, including possible retirements by Senate Republicans. Mr. Cameron talked by telephone about the Republican presidential debate in New Hampshire scheduled for Wednesday evening. In the newspaper roundtable, Senator Frist and Rep. Orton talked about current issues, including Medicare and Medicaid reform and the budget process. Rep. Montgomery talked briefly about the Joint Session to commemmorate the fiftieth anniversary of World War Two. close
