President of the American Hospital Association Dick Davidson talked about the A.H.A. principles and activities during the 1995 budget debate over health care financing. Representative John Kasich (R-Ohio) talked about the Republican desire to change the nation, especially to save and change federal medical programs by turning them over to states and individuals, by satellite. Senator Tom Daschle (D-South Dakota) spoke about the need for compromise in balancing the budget, reforming Medicare and Medicaid and reforming the overall health care system. Senator Don Nickles (R-Oklahoma) spoke about the need to make the Medicare trust fund solvent by controlling the program’s growth. He emphasized that the Republicans and Democrats are actually very close to agreement on this issue. close
