Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the Daybook interview, Art Weissman reacted to presidential politics, the Republican candidates in Iowa and other headline issues. In the newspaper roundtable, Senator Rick Santorum, R-PA and Representative John Conyers, D-MI reacted to the morning headline stories. Governor Steve Merrill, R-NH, also participated from the NGA at the Marriott Hotel. Representative Martin Hoke, R-OH, reacted to the House Judiciary Committee meeting on the anti-trust implications of sports franchise relocations. Malcolm Kushner explained the CD-ROM he was developing to capture President Ronald Reagan’s humor. In the last segment, Steven Roberts previewed by remote connection, the speeches at National Governors' Association by Senator Bob Dole, R-KS, and President Bill Clinton. close
