Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Stephen Green talked about the morning headlines including current activities in Congress. In the newspaper roundtable, Sen. John McCain and Bill Press talked about current issues including the flat tax, campaign reforms, and the upcoming presidential elections. Mr. Schmitt talked by telephone about his first vote and the issues that will affect it. In the next segment, John Warner talked by remote connection about defense issues and defense spending for fiscal year 1997. In the next segment, Evelyn Morton and Sylvester Schieber talked about Social Security reform including privatization. In the final segment, Judge Gilbert Merritt talked in a taped interview about allowing cameras in U.S. appellate courts. close
