Terry Eastland, Forbes Media Critic-Editor, spoke about the history of affirmative action programs and the political debate over them in the past twenty-five years. He argued that Republican presidents created the program and did not want to change them because they feared political repercussions from the Democratic Congress. After his prepared remarks, he took questions from the audience. also examined the role of the debate over them in the 1996 campaign. Mr. Eastland has also published a new book on this subject entitled, Ending Affirmative Action: A Case for Color-Blind Justice. close
