Professor Michael Sandel talked about his recent book, Democracy’s Discontent: America in Search of a Public Philosophy, published by Harvard University Press. The book is about America’s past and present political arguments. It also examines citizens' frustration with government and the unraveling of the moral fabric of community, which the government seems unable to stem. It also argues that neither the Republican nor the Democratic party can inspire the sense of community and civic engagement that self-government requires. Professor Sandel has been called a “republican-communitarian critic of rights-based liberalism.” close
