Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony President Clinton and others spoke to family members, colleagues and others in attendance at a memorial ceremony sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police and the U.S. Capitol Police for the 174 police officers killed in the line of duty last year. In his remarks, President Clinton singled out Will Robinson, a sherriff’s deputy from Georgia, who was shot when he responded to a 911 call concerning an armed robbery. He then talked about his administration’s efforts to fight crime, including 100,000 additional police officers and ensuring that criminals serve most of their sentences. He said these fallen officers died “for law, for order, for justice and for peace.” This was the fifteenth annual ceremony. close
