James Thomas Flexner talked about his autobiography, Maverick’s Progress, published by Fordham University Press. He is best known for his four-volume biography of George Washington. All 25 of his books, the first of which was Doctors on Horseback, published in 1937, remain in print. He talked about his development as a writer and his methodology as a biographer. He has been a poet, an historical adviser to 1950s dramatic historical television productions, and recipient of an award from the Smithsonian Institution for successfully creating international interest in American art as a genre. close
