Congressman William Clinger (R-PA) met with reporters to talk about the White House release of documents related to the firings of Travel Office employees, and took questions after a brief statement. The release of the documents occurred just prior to a scheduled House debate on a resolution charging the White House with contempt of Congress for refusing to turn over the documents. Rep. Clinger revealed that the newly released documents showed that the White House had requested FBI background files on Billy Dale, the head of the Travel Office who was fired by the White House. Rep. Clinger charged that this violated the guidelines covering White House contact with the Justice Department during pending criminal investigations and requested that the White House turn over a list of any other FBI files that it had requested on private citizens or potential employees. close
