Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Elving talked about the morning headlines including current investigations in Washington and changes in the U.S. Congress. In the next segment, Mr. Dove talked about the website for the European Information Network which deals with Russian news and information. In the newspaper roundtable, Mr. Barone and Mr. Frady talked about current issues including the FBI files acquired by the Clinton White House and other notable stories. Ms. Buchanan talked by telephone about her political views and future plans. In part 1 of a 5 part series on the Pentagon Papers, Mr. Rudenstine talked about the activities and controversy surrounding the Pentagon Papers and his book, The Day the Presses Stopped. Also, Mr. McNamara talked about the issue in a taped interview. close
