Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Welch talked about the morning headlines including recent changes in the Senate and budget issues. In the next segment, Senator Stevens talked by remote connection about the history and statehood of Alaska. In the newspaper roundtable, Senator Santorum and Rep. Waters talked about current issues including current investigations in Washington and the church burnings in the southern United States. Mr. Connor talked by telephone about his entry in the C-SPAN Scholarship Competition and his political activities. In part 4 of a 5 part series on the Pentagon Papers, former Senator Gravel and former Assistant Attorney General Mardian talked about their roles and views in the matter. close
