Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Carney talked about the Russian elections, and the Whitewater and F.B.I. file investigations. In the newspaper roundtable, Mr. Nelson and Mr. Brimelow discussed various issues, including Mr. Dole’s and Speaker Gingrich’s different approaches to political issues. In the next segment from Fairbanks, Alaska, Senator Murkowski talked about various aspects of the state and the particular issues facing the state. In the final segment, Ms. Ward and Mr. Burke discussed the balance between oil drilling and environmental protection in northern Alaska. close
