Guests gathered to celebrate Michigan State University’s publishing of a new book entitled, “Philip Hart: The Conscience of the Senate.” Several senators who knew him paid tribute to his commitment to helping people and his legacy in the U.S. Senate. President McPherson also presented copies of the book to the House and Senate historians. Senator Hart served in the U.S. Senate from 1959 until his death on December 26, 1976. The third Senate office building was named for him in 1987. close
