Secretary of Labor Robert Reich spoke about the need to raise the minimum wage in order to help the 10 million citizens who hold minimum-wage jobs. He also criticized Republicans for trying to exclude many workers from such a raise through various amendments. After his prepared remarks, he took questions from the audience about this and other issues, including the administration’s overall economic policy and performance and the economic dimensions of the 1996 campaign. Following his remarks Mr. Reich took questions from the audience as moderated by the National Press Club membership director Chris Roche. close
