Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Gail Sheehy of Vanity Fair talked about the morning headlines including Mr. Dole’s presidential campaign. In the next segment, Donald Kellermann of the Pew Research Center talked about the history of the Republican Party. In the newspaper roundtable, Donald Kaul of the Des Moines Register and Byron York of American Spectator talked about current issues including the Dole campaign. In the next segment, Amy Bayer of Copley News Service talked by remote connection about the design and events of the Republican National Convention in San Diego. In the final segment, Betty Fine Collins, an Alabama Delegate to the convention also talked by remote connection about the recent activities of Republican Convention delegates. close
