After being introduced by a minimum wage worker from Wheeling, West Virginia, President Clinton spoke about the importance of raising the minimum wage for 10 million citizens. He also emphasized that this was but one part of his administration’s economic strategy to help more citizens succeed economically. He signed the bill on Frances Perkins' desk, on which the first minimum wage law was signed, while being surrounded by minimum wage workers and their children. close
