Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Trimble telephoned to discuss the United States' attack on Iraq after its violation of the northern “no-fly zone.” Mr. Sammon also discussed the attack and speculated about the congressional reaction. During the program, President Clinton held a press conference in the Oval Office explaining the action taken against Iraq. The newspaper roundtable featured Reps. Cummings and Davis, who discussed stories of interest in varying newspapers. The program was interrupted again for a press conference from the Pentagon regarding the situation in Iraq. Following the press conference, Hedrick Smith discussed his upcoming PBS documentary entitled “The People & the Power Game.” close
