Participants gathered to celebrate a memorial to honor more than 200,000 African-American soldiers who served in Union forces during the Civil War. The memorial was required by legislation and passed in 1991. The Civil War Memorial Freedom Foundation paid tribute to these soldiers' service and bravery and talked about the discrimination they continually faced from their counterparts. Musical selections were provided by an Air Force string quartet. close
