After being presented by Attorney General Janet Reno with the latest report on the anti-violence crime initiative, President Bill Clinton highlighted a few aspects of the report, including the use of racketeering laws against gang criminal activities. The President noted that this latest report is further evidence that our efforts are working and that we can lower the level of youth violence and gang-related violence in our country if we work at it in a systematic, disciplined, and tough way. The President called on the Congress to expand the statute of limitations for violent crime and gangs from 5 years to 10 years. He explained that this will give prosecutors the time they need to make the best case. After his remarks, he took several questions about U.S. policy against Iraq and the Downing report on military security. close
