President Clinton, joined by Israeli Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian Chairman Yasser Arafat and King Hussein of Jordan seated behind him, spoke to reporters about the results of the Middle East peace summit. He emphasized that Netanyahu and Arafat will begin meeting on Sunday in which the first item of discussion will be the disputed city of Hebron and that they have renounced the recent violence in the region. He also stated that the U.S. has “a special responsibility to protect the peace process at moments of extreme difficulty, to help move it forward.” After his remarks, he took questions from the press. close
