Senator Mondale labeled Senator Dole as a “hatchet man” after Senator Dole called all the 20th century U.S. wars “Democrat wars” because Democrats were president when the U.S. became involved. The debate was moderated by James Hoge. Other panelists included Hal Bruno, Marilyn Berger, and Walter Mears.
Each candidate had two minutes and fifteen seconds to answer and rebut and one minute to respond. Each candidate was given three minutes for a closing statement.
