Michael Armacost, Brookings Institute President, moderated a discussion between Stephen Solarz, Former Democratic Representative from New York, and W. Bowman Cutter, Former Deputy Assistant to the President for Economic Affairs, who represented the Clinton campaign, and Robert Zoellick, Former Under Secretary of State for the Bush Administration and Douglas Paal, Asia Pacific Policy Center, represented the Dole campaign, on U.S. policy toward Asia, specifically the Pacific Rim region. They made opening and closing statements and took a series of questions from Mr. Armacost which focused on strategic and security interests, in areas such as China and Korea, and then economic and trade issues, concerning China, Japan and the rest of the region. close
