The NATIONAL hIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION announced new regulations intended to prevent deaths attributed to automobile air bags.

The new requirements included: warning labels about dangers to children; allowing air bags to be disconnected by dealer on the owner’s request; using less force to deploy air bags; using more advanced air bags and allowing auto manufacturers more time to install off switches in vehicles with no rear seat. They stressed that these new requirements were necessary to protect children and others, but that air bags are much more beneficial than harmful. close
