Officials of the AMERICAN AUTOMOBILE MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION commented on new government regulations for a air bags.

They expressed general support for the regulations requiring labels and the option to disable airbags in the short term and more advanced air bags by 1999.

They also expressed concern about the speed with which the government would allow them to install less forceful air bags and the negative message of allowing people to disconnect air bags.
