President Bill Clinton presented Shannon Lucid with the Congressional Space Medal of Honor. Lucid, who spent 188 days aboard the Russian space station, Mir, longer than any other astronaut at that point became the first woman to receive such an award. She said that the cooperation between the U.S. and Russian in completing her mission was only the beginning of the necessary cooperation to further space exploration. close
