In the third open meeting of the commission, air traffic controllers, pilots and representatives of several airlines and aviation industry groups testified about airline safety. The focus was on new technologies and Vice President Gore and others called for a new air traffic system which would allow open flight plans and use satellites to ensure planes avoided each other. They focused on the need for new equipment. close
