Panelists at an American Enterprise Institute (AEI) sponsored event discussed the costs of governmental regulation on business. Clifford Winston, senior fellow at the Brookings Institute, spoke about why factors other than deregulation have made recently deregulated industries more efficient. Harold Furchtgott-Roth, chief economist for the House Commerce Committee, then spoke about the distinctions between necessary and unnecessary regulations. Gregory Sidak, a fellow with AEI, then commented on both presentations. After the presentations, all of the men took questions from the audience. close
