Senator Robert Bennett (R-UT) and several Utah county commissioners briefed reporters on public land use issues of particular interest to Western states, especially Utah. They focused on three issues: the new national monument in southern Utah, R.S. 2477 issues and a categorization of more lands as wilderness areas, and therefore off limits to development. R.S. 2477 deals with whether the local or federal government has jurisdiction over roads which cross public lands. close
