In his first policy speech since the election, President Clinton spoke about the importance of bipartisan cooperation in supporting an agenda of what he called, “the vital center.” He outlined eight goals: balancing the budget while preserving Medicare, expanding healthcare, improving education, implementing welfare reform, funding more police, improving family life, passing campaign finance reform, sponsoring scientific research and leading the world to more peace and freedom. After his remarks he spent about 15 minutes mixing with the audience. close
