After an executive council meeting, President John Sweeney and other union officials briefed reporters on AFL-CIO activities over the past year and its agenda for the next year. Items on their agenda included: protecting Social Security and private pensions, expanding health care, creating new educational opportunities and protecting worker interests in trade and tax policy. They also talked about the union’s reorganization efforts. The group also met with Vice President Al Gore earlier in the day. close
