Rep. Pelosi, a member of the Ethics Committee, reacted to a Republican news conference the previous evening in which Rep. Johnson, the chair of the Ethics Committee, announced that the final report would be completed by January 16, five days before members would vote on punishment for Speaker Gingrich. She emphasized that the report should not be completed before punishment hearings were held and that hearings should not be scheduled the weekend before the inauguration.
