The Joint Chiefs of Staff paid tribute to retiring Defense Secretary Perry. The ceremony and military drills were held indoors at Ft. Myers because of cold weather. General Shalikashvili praised Secretary Perry as did President Clinton who described the secretary’s life and career and thanked him, saying, “Today our troops are the best trained, the best equipped, the best prepared fighting force in the world.” Secretary and Mrs. Perry were presented with medals. close
