Columbia University Professor Eric Foner provided a tour of this traveling exhibit of the Reconstruction era in U.S. history. The Reconstruction period lasted from 1865, when the Civil War ended, to 1877, when President Hayes removed the last federal troops from the former Confederate states. The period featured debates over several issues that are still under discussion today, including race relations and federalism. close
