South African President Nelson Mandela, his cabinet, judiciary officials and members participated in the first opening of the South African Parliament under the nation’s new constitution. President Mandela opened the session with his state of the nation address. In it he warned against extremist violence by disenchanted Whites, which would only lead to retribution by the Black majority, and stressed that currency reform must remain gradual. close
