Committee members heard testimony concerning the effectiveness of the television ratings system, which the industry voluntarily initiated at the beginning of the year. Several legislators who are proposing legislation to force the industry to provide more detailed information and representatives of several advocacy groups testified about the vague nature of the ratings. All four networks turned down invitations to appear at the hearing. close
