President Gerald Ford talked about U.S. involvement in the conflict in Vietnam. He talked about his boyhood hero, Senator Arthur Vandenburg of Michigan, and his philosophy against isolation in foreign affairs. President Ford then reviewed his congressional career involving Vietnam and his views on helping creating a democratic Vietnam. He also said that history has not exactly proved wrong the theory that North Vietnam was an aggressive power determined to take a stranglehold over the whole of Vietnam. Following his prepared remarks, President Ford took questions from the audience. close
