Senator John Glenn (D-Ohio) reacted to Majority Leader Trent Lott’s comments the previous day about the scope of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee investigation into campaign finance practices during the 1996 elections. Senator Glenn objected to this narrowing of the investigation to only the presidential election after the Governmental Affairs Committee and the Rules Committee had already agreed to an investigation of both congressional and presidential elections. Senator Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii), who participated in the Watergate and Iran-Contra hearings contrasted the bipartisan nature of these hearings with the current investigation. close
