President Clinton participated in a welfare to work partnership event with governors and business leaders throughout the country to examine what role businesses should play in hiring citizens coming off welfare and in need of jobs. The president indicated that initiatives such as welfare to work can help diminish dependence on public assistance. The president said that close to a million people will need jobs in the next four years to meet the requirements of the welfare reform law signed last summer. close
