The U.S. Senate met and continued consideration of S. Con. Res. 27 the Concurrent Budget Resolution which set forth the congressional budget for the United States government for fiscal years 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002. The final version of the legislation did not receive a vote, but a number of amendments to the budget did. Senators also passed a number of measures, such as awarding a Congressional Gold Medal to Mother Teressa of Calcutta and authorizing the use of the Capitol grounds for the Special Olympics Torch Relay. Upon the completion of the day’s business, the Senate adjourned until 9:30 a.m. the following morning. close
