The Senate Foreign Affairs Committee approved nomination of Donald Gregg as ambassador. This nomination had been controversial because of Gregg’s previous position as national security adviser to Vice President Bush and his involvement in the Iran/Contra affair. Senator Sarbanes objected to the approval of other nominees who he feels are qualified primarily on the basis of political contributions. close
