The recent Court term is reviewed with particular attention to civil rights issues. Discrimination is discussed in the cases Patterson v. McClean Credit Union and Price v. Waterhouse. In Patterson, racial discrimination was not protected. Price v. Waterhouse involved sexual discrimination. The Court’s stance on individual rights is also analyzed. Texas v. Johnson has sparked interest in a constitutional amendment to protect the American flag and is viewed as a possible First Amendment issue. Webster v. Reproductive Health Services is reviewed. In that case, the Court upheld state restrictions on abortion funding. Penry v. Lynaugh and Stanford v. Kentucky are given as examples where the Court has said that capital punishment is not cruel or unusual punishment. close
