In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing mission, authors Charles Murray and Catherine Bly Cox discussed their recent book, Apollo, The Race to the Moon. Rather than focus on the astronauts themselves, or the social significance of the event, Murray and Cox offered a behind-the-scenes look at the NASA administrators, engineers, and other support staff involved in the space program. Their research covered the history of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs, and they shared their unique experiences of interviewing these men, stressing the deep commitment and intensity that all seemed to share who worked on the projects. close
