The Supreme Court considered the constitutionality of certain agreements between private-sector employers and unions in oral argument heard November 13. The Court heard oral argument in the case Unite Here Local 355 v. Mulhall. A union had an agreement with the owner of a casino and dog track in Florida where the union agreed to pay for advertisements to support a gambling ballot initiative the casino wanted to pass and the casino agreed to allow the union to organize employees on its property. An employee sued, saying this violated the Labor Management Relations Act, because the access to the workplace could be seen as a bribe. close
