Rep. Bereuter, a member of the House International Relations Committee, spoke about the future of U.S. relations with Asian nations. He talked about the outline of overall policies that he thinks should govern relations with Asia and explained why a lack of administration leadership has contributed to an activist Congress in Asia-Pacific affairs. Rep. Bereuter also described his thoughts on Most Favored Nation trade status with China. Following his prepared remarks, Rep. Bereuter took questions from the audience. After Rep. Bereuter finished, Mr. Gyohten talked about the development of the Asian economy and specifically northeast Asia and the differences between the nations in that region that have become economic powers. close
