President Bill Clinton spoke about how U.S.-Africa trade relations could be improved. He talked about the benefits of trade between the two nations and said that Africa was a continent of “bright hopes and persistent problems.” The president said the United States had a responsibility to work for peace in Africa but to also dedicate itself to maintain and enhance the financial gains to be had in Africa. He said that the number of African democracies had quadrupled in the last few years and more economies were opening up their markets to foreign trade and gaining vitality. close
