After the second reading, members debate a bill which would outlaw possession of handguns in the United Kingdom. It extends a law passed last November which outlawed all handguns except .22 caliber and below weapons which had to be stored at gun clubs. They also debated how this legislation will be implemented. Secretary Straw outlined the government’s position on the measure and explained why the ban passed under the Conservative government in 1996 was not sufficient and took questions from opponents and supporters. The House passed the measure by a 384 to 181 vote. close
