Vice President Al Gore announced a new program called the Water 2000 Initiative, designed to bring clean, clear water to rural areas of the nation. Mayor Emma Gresham said she was “happy and excited” at the prospect of being at the White House and the announcement of the new program. The vice president said the Clinton administration’s initiative was helping to protect public health in rural areas by making drinking water safe for its citizens. close
