David Kimball, the President of the Museum Association for the Burlington County Prison, described the history of the prison including its architecture and its condition when Alexis de Tocqueville visited in the 1800s. Mr. Kimball said the prison was built to try and provide adequate air ventilation and include work shops to assist the prisoners in doing something productive. This interview took place when the C-SPAN bus visited Mount Holly, New Jersey on the Alexis de Tocqueville tour. close
