Members debated the spending portion of the budget reconciliation package which was designed to save $135 million in various entitlement programs over the next five years. Members highlighted what they liked and disliked about the bill and its implications for citizens and the U.S. economy. After a call to the floor, members heard concluding speeches by Rep. Spratt and Rep. Kasich, the ranking member and chairman of the House Budget Committee. The House approved the bill by a 346 to 85 vote. close
