Thomas Friedman, chief diplomatic correspondent for the New York Times, discusses his best-selling book, From Beirut to Jerusalem. Friedman was the first Jewish correspondent to be sent by the Times to cover Middle East politics. He was assigned to Beirut and Jerusalem from the late seventies through the mid-eighties. The Muslim-Christian-Jewish conflict is addressed and he speaks of many “absurdities of life” in Beirut. Friedman also talks of daily life in Jerusalem and how such a relatively small city can command so much of the world headlines. close
